1919 - joined the Anglo-Saxon Petroleum Company. 1920 - appointed chief engineer of the motor tanker "Ortinashell". 1924 - became superintendent engineer, responsible for the construction of double-acting Werkspoor engines. 1938 - resigned his post at Anglo-Saxon Petroleum Company to join F.J Trewent and Proctor Ltd. 1940 - returned to Anglo-Saxon Petroleum. 1948 - was made manager of the research and development department. Received the Denny Gold Medal from the Institute of Marine Engineers. 1951 - installation of the first gas turbine in the "Auris". 1953 - became a director of Shell Tankers Ltd. on its formation.
