Orientalist photographic studio and bookshop; Austrian photographer Rudolf Franz Lehnert (1878-1948) travelled in Europe and North Africa in the early 1900s; met German Ernst Heinrich Landrock (d 1966) in 1904; both moved to Tunisia where they established a photographic studio; both arrested and interned in Switzerland during the first world war; moved to Cairo in 1924 to re-establish their business; Lehnert sold his shares to Landrock in 1930, returning to Tunisia to open his own photographic studio; Landrock returned to Germany in 1938, selling 80% of his shares to Kurt Lambelet; during the second world war the shop switched from photography to bookselling, growing to become one of the largest English bookshops in Cairo.
