1835 - founded by Thomas Joseph Ditchburn and Charles John Mare. 1838 - built Daylight, one of the first iron vessels to be built on the Thames. 1843 - launched the iron steamer Magician for the Blackwall to Ostend route. 1846 - Ditchburn retired. 1848 - Charles Mare reformed the company as CJ Mare and Co.
