The Gambrell brothers began the production of scientific equipment for schools and laboratories in 1894. During the 1920s, the brothers began creating crystal sets and other radio receivers and componets, introducing the first British AC receiver, the "Baby Grand", in 1926. They produced radios from around 1922 to the early 1930s and then their radio division was liquidated in 1939. However, Gambrell Brothers Ltd. continued making scientific equipment until after the Second World War.
