1841 - created as part of the Geographical Survey. 1929-1933 - at a cost of £220,000, a new building constructed in South Kensington designed by Science Museum architect Sir Richard Allinson and JH Markham. 1935 - the South Kensington building opened. 1985 - merged with the Natural History Museum.
