Founded 1920 by brothers Sosithenes and Hermand Behn, growing out of the Puerto Rico Telephone Company; from 1960 to 1977 acquired over 350 companies to become a giant conglomerate; restructured in 1995 into three separate companies, ITT Corporation focusing on hotel and gaming business, ITT Hartford concentrating on insurance, and ITT Industries a group of manufacturing industries; ITT Industries renamed itself ITT corporation in 2006.
