Founded in Black Forest region as heavy engineering and manufacturing firm by Jospeh Benedikt in 1835; begin manufacturing radio receivers in 1923; arnmaments production during second world war; expanded into toys, pharmacuticals and telephones post war; begins television manufacture in 1957, colour television production in 1967; bought out by French Thomson Group in 1980.
