Founded 1946 as Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Corporation; 1955 produced first Japanese commercial transistor radio; launched Betamax video cassette recording system in 1975; launched Walkman personnel stereo system in 1979; launched Handycam video products in 1985; launched PlayStation games console range in 1994.
