1840s - appointed an engineer in the London & Birmingham Railway’s new locomotive works in Wolverton. 1840 - lodged at Old Wolverton. 1847 - moved to Stony Stratford and started up the Watling Works. 1851 - working as a Consulting Engineer. 1857 - patented a steam powered windlass. 1860 - concentrated on boatbuilding at the Watling Works. 1861 - awarded the silver medal by the Royal Agricultural Society of England for his steam powered windlass.
