S A Stewart

S. A. Stewart was an Assistant Engineer on the East Indian Railway. Stewart was based in Barh, on the banks of the River Ganges, 300km to the east of the terminus at Benares (now Varanasi). Stewart made a watercolour painting in February 1856 of a landscape scene at Mohr near Barh, which was then collected by the railway's Chief Engineer George Turnbull, and is now in the National Railway Museum Collection. Stewart was also a member of the Photographic Society of Bengal, and exhibited at the 1856 Photographic Society of Scotland exhibition in Edinburgh.
