Capitol Records 1942
Founded in 1942 by Johnny Mercer, Glenn Wallichs and Buddy DeSylva. Capitol Records is an American music label now owned by the Universal Music Group. The record label is very successful and has worked with artists such as Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, The Beatles, Tina Turner, Katy Perry and Halsey.
In 1955, Capitol Records was acquired by EMI to become its American subsidiary and it remained under EMI until 2012.
In 1968, Audio Devices, Inc., a manufacturer of magnetic tape, formed a reverse merger with Capitol Records. The new Capitol Magnetic Products division that focused on manufacturing magnetic tape products continued for twenty years until 1988 when it was closed due to restructuring. This division created the Audiopak brand of tapes.
