Kryolan 1945
1945 - founded by Arnold Langer, a keen chemistry student who was drawn to the make-up industry in 1920's Berlin. The business was registered on August 14th 1945.
Situated in Reinickendorf, formerly a French sector of Berlin, initially producing skincare that was distributed regionally. In the same year the company launched a range of theater make-up under the new name, "Kryolan", and was made available to the newly reopened stages of Berlin.
1947 - A branch is established in the formerly Soviet sector.
1950 - The East Berlin branch is occupied by communist authorities. Business activities continue in this branch as an independent company under the name "Coloran".
1960 - On January 1st, Kryolan acquires the competing make-up firm Brändel GmbH. The purchase has synergizing effects on production, sales structure, and manufacturing, and contributes to a clearly stronger growth and market acceptance of the new brand Kryolan Brändel.
1971 - After 26 years of doing business at Reinickendorfer Provinzstraße, the company moves into its own new building in the Papierstrasse.
1975 - Upon suggestions by customers, and after intense development work, production of the so-called camouflage preparations (make-up to cover skin discolorations) is started under the registered trademark of Dermacolor.
1976 - The first international subsidiary, Kryolan Corporation, opens in Van Nuys, California.
1987 - Business activities in the US developed positively and due to the growing market, new premises were established in the center of San Francisco and becomes the new company domicile.
1992 - Kryolan acquires Charles H. Fox Ltd. in London, which becomes responsible for all sales of Kryolan products in the United Kingdom.
2005-6 - Arnold Langer wins the "A Life of Beauty" award for his professional achievement at the Beauty International Trade Fair in Düsseldorf, Germany.
2006 - Kryolan holds its first multicultural symposium for professional design make-up, under the title GLOBAL FACE ART at the technical University of Berlin.
2012 - After intensive re branding preparations, Kryolan launches its "Make-Up Is A Science" campaign.
2015 - In August, the English subsidiary Charles H. Fox is re-branded as Kryolan UK Ltd., and the shop in Covent Garden becomes the first Kryolan City London.
Kryolan continue to trade at multiple sites around the world including San Francisco, Johannesburg, South Indian Chennai (Madras) and Poland.
