David Tyson, born in 1964, worked as a Driver's Assistant in the Norwich Depot between 1980 and 1987. From 1987 onwards he worked as a Driver at Norwich Depot.

He has also had a long tenure within the Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen (ASLEF) trade union, starting out as a Staff Representative before becoming ASLEF Union Executive Committee Member and eventually ASLEF President. He also sits on Railways Pension Trustee Board as a Member nominee.
