Dominic Booth joined British Rail: Eastern Region as a Management Trainee in 1986. He worked in InterCity East Anglia Division between 1988 and 1992, after which he became the Manager of the Isle of Wight Railway, serving in this post until 1994.

He was appointed as Operations Director in Connex South Eastern & South Central from 1994 to 1997, before becoming Head of Operations Planning and Control for South Eastern until 2000. He then moved to Prism Rail's Cardiff Valleys and Wales & West franchises as Managing Director until 2008. In 2008 he became Managing Director of National Express London Lines. In 2016 he began working as the Managing Director of Abellio UK Rail.
