Michael Robert Edward Jones, known as Mike Jones, was born in 1947 and worked as a Clerical Officer in Staff Office on the Kings Cross Division from 1964. He then became a Management Trainee on the Sheffield Division before working as Assistant Area Manager at Chingford and subsequently Poplar Docks. He served as Station Manager at Leeds and the Regional Sales and Marketing Manager in York. He was National Marketing Manager for Speedlink until 1982 when he became National Business Manager for various products in Railfreight until 1990. He then worked as the Commercial Manager in British Rail Telecommunications from 1990 and stayed with the organisation until 1997 whilst it was privatised as Racal BRT, before leaving to be a co-founder of Renaissance Trains in 1997.
