Dr. Malcolm C. Reed was born in 1944. He was accepted onto Management Trainee scheme on British Rail: London Midland Region. He worked as a Rail Planner at Strathclyde Passenger Transport Executive from 1975 to 1980 and then became Chief Policy Planner at Strathclyde Regional Council in 1989. He then joined Strathclyde Passenger Transport Executive as Deputy Director General from 1989 to 1993 and was promoted to Director General in 1994, staying in this capacity until 2001. He then worked as the Chief Executive of Transport Scotland from 2002 to 2006.
