Mark C.E. Evans was born in 1953. He joined British Rail as a Management Trainee in 1975. Between 1978 and 1993 he held various front-line posts in British Rail: Southern Region. He worked as Station Manager at Gatwick and was appointed as Area Manager at Southampton before undertaking the same role at Woking. From 1993 and 1996 he worked as the Privatisation Manager for South West Trains and then became Stagecoach Retail Manager at South West Trains in 1997. He worked on the Heathrow Freight project with British Airways from 1997 to 2001. He has also been the Director of WAGN (West Anglia Great Northern), National Express, and worked on the National Express Rail Bid team.
