Barry S. Grant was born in 1944 and studied for a BSc in Mathematics at the University of Manchester and took a MSc in Operational Research at Lancaster University. He worked for British Rail Operational Research from 1970 to 1997. He then went into consultancy with AEA Technology between 1997 and 2003.
