Charles Devereux joined British Rail from the University of Cambridge in 1978 as a Traffic Management trainee, undertaking training in the Norwich Division. He then moved to be Station Supervisor at Newcastle and subsequently worked as Area Freight Manager at Blyth. He then was employed in the development of computing in operations. He was the Provincial Manager East Anglia and the Route Manager West Anglia before joining British Rail Telecommunications, staying in the organisation for 10 years. In 2003 he joined Crossrail and retired in 2013 as the Head of Rail Operations.
