Hedwig Eva Maria Lamarr 1914 - 2000
Born Hedwig Kiesler in 1914, Hedy Lamarr was best known as an actress, but was also an inventor. Most notably, along with the composer George Anthiel, she patented a method for frequency-hopping radio which could control torpedoes but not be jammed by an enemy. This was patented in the United States as a Secret Communication System, under the name of Hedy Kiesler Markey, in 1941.
