Based at Falcon Works, Hughes started buidling in 1865 and the engineering side of things began two years later in 1867. The firm experienced financial difficulties in the late 1870s/early 1880s. It was restructured as the Falcon Railway Plant Works in 1883 under the control of Norman Scott Russell. The Falcon works have since been taken over by Brush Electrical.
