Formed during the Great Drepression from the merger of the Gramophone Company and the Columbia Graphophone Company in 1931. In addition to record & music business developed and manufactured electrical/electronic consumer goods. Renamed EMI Ltd in 1973 then merged with Thorn Electrical Industries Ltd forming Thorn EMI in 1979. Companies demerged in 1996 to become EMI Group
