1934-39 - attended the Glasgow School of Art. 1941 - joined the Royal Army Medical Corps. 1946 - appointed to a teaching position at the Edinburgh College of Art. 1947 - served as Artist-in-Residence at Hospitalfield House (Arbroath) and painted In the Image of Man following his experiences during World War II. 1954 - moved to Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen. 1960 - promoted to Head of Drawing and Painting.
