British documentary photographer noted for views of rural and industrial Britain; began photography in mid 1970s; photographic work recording cities across Europe in mid-1980s; monograph 'The British Landscape' was published 2006 alongside a major retrospective of this work at PhotoEspaña in Madrid and the National Media Museum in Bradford; shortlisted for the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize 2008; organised and curated the exhibition 'Cities on the Edge' and accompanying book 2008.
