1576 - apprenticed to Thomas Hartop, London goldsmith. 1596 - assisted Denbigh in gaining a new charter. 1609-1613 - instrumental in the New River Project, to bring a water supply from the River Lea in Hertfordshire to London. 1622 - granted baronetcy by James I. 1862 - statue erected on Islington Green.
