Especially known for his photographic portraits. Made several films for television. He was consultant to the Council of Industrial Design and editorial adviser to Design Magazine from 1961 to 1987; artistic adviser to Sunday Times Publications from 1962 to 1990; and photographer for the Telegraph Magazine from 1990. His publications include Private View (1965), Venice (1972), and Assignments (1972). Son of R O L Armstrong-Jones and the Countess of Rosse, and was educated at Eton and Cambridge. He was married to Princess Margaret 1960–78. He was created earl in 1961.
