Led by Robert Falcon Scott, whose self declared main objective was to 'Reach the south pole for the Glory of Britain'. Scott's five man party reached the pole on 17 January 1912 only to find that Roald Amundsen's party had reached it on 14 December 1911. Scott and his party died of scurvy and/or starvation during the return journey.
