The Chester and Holyhead Railway Act was passed in 1844 and gave permission for a railway to be built between the two towns. The Chester and Holyhead Railway was incorporated in the LNWR on January 1, 1859. It is now known as the North Wales Coast Line and it still connects with sea ferries to Dublin.
