Peter Desaga designed and built the burner according to Robert Wilhelm Bunsen’s specifications whilst at the University of Heidelberg. Desaga's son Carl founded the firm C. Desaga, as a factory for Scientific Apparatus, to manufacture the Bunsen burner and other apparatus that was in high demand worldwide.
