1840 - commissioned to paint portrait of Queen Victoria (Queen Victoria Riding Out ). 1855 - awarded gold medal at Universal Exhibition, Paris for The Meeting of his Majesty's Staghounds on Ascot Heath. 1866 - became president of the Royal Academy. 1868 - lifted ban on whole-length and half-length portraits being hung at eye level in exhibition galleries.
