The Maldon Witham & Braintree Railway was a 12 mile stretch of railway track that linked the three named towns. It was initially authorized in 1846, but was not completed until 1848. The last goods train used the line in 1966. The line was operated initally by the Eastern Counties Railway, which was absorbed into the GER in 1862. In the line became part of the LNER.
