The only living person (2008) to have received two Nobel prizes. Sanger was born in Rendcomb, a small village in Gloucestershire. He discovered the structure of proteins, most famously that of the insulin protein, which earned him his first Nobel prize (1958). He also contributed to the determination of base sequences in DNA which gained him his second prize in 1980.
