William Lister 1785 - 1850

occupation:
Engineer
Nationality:
British

William Lister, who was probably a whitesmith by trade, had worked as a textile engineer for Pease's before taking premises in the Tubwell Row tanyard. When the Stockton and Darlington line increased from single to double track, and horse traction aided by stationary engines was phased out in favour of locomotives, the foundries of those like Lister invested in new premises where they could concentrate upon railway work.
