Frederick Scott Archer 1813 - 1857

occupation:
Artist, Photographer, Sculptor
Nationality:
British

Scott Archer developed the wet collodion process of making photographic negatives. This was important as it allowed finely detailed negatives to be produced for the first time. Previously the only options were daguerreotypes and calo- types. Daguerreotypes produced clear and detailed images but were unique ‘one-off’ images. Calotype negatives were capable of reproduction, but suffered from a lack of detail.
