James Green, Canal Builder - Brian George James Green worked in Devon as an assistant to the great John Rennie. In 1808 he went on to be county surveyor in Devon, and designed and constructed the Bude Canal, Torrington Canal, Grand Western Canal and canals in South Wales. He was also engineer at the commencement of the Chard Canal.
