1891 - BIPM British Institute of Preventative Medicine set up; 1902 site purchased in Elstree, Herts, 1905 name changed to Jenner Institute of Preventative Medicine; 1909 Lister Institute of Preventative Medicine. The first UK medical research charity. Early 1970s - closure of Chelsea laboratories and Elstree production facilities.
