Chain of photographic studios, with branches in Oxford, Cambridge, London, Eton and Harrow, Aldershot, Rugby, Sandhurst and York; clientele were public schoolboys and their families, university students and military officers ; founded 1856 by hairdresser and wigmaker Robert Hills; entered partnership with John Henry Saunders in 1860; appointed photographers to Edward, Prince of Wales, c 1863; given Royal Warrant as photographers to the Queen in 1867; partnership was dissolved in 1889, but members of both families continued to run branches under the old name.
