Coles Crane Ltd 1879 - 1984
- Southwark, Southwark, London, Greater London, England, United Kingdom
Henry J Coles and his three brothers, Frederick, Walter and Ernest, set up their own business making cranes in an engineering workshop in Summer Street, Southwark, London, in 1878. In 1946 all their work was moved up to Sunderland. In 1984, the Acro group, of which Coles was a part, went into liquidation. Grove subsequently bought the company, in 1985, and renamed it Grove Coles Ltd. In 1998 the company dropped the name Coles from their title, and shut the factory in Sunderland.
