1869 - William Allen Miller's devises - with the assistance L. P. Casella (instrument maker) - the Miller–Casella thermometer. This was during the HMS ‘Porcupine’ research voyage scientific preparations. The Miller–Casella thermometer is a pressure-resistant version of Six's self-registering thermometer: specifically, for use in the ocean depths.
