Graham Niven founded the Portsmouth Evening news around 1883, and he was the editor, manager, reporter and distributor. However, Niven sold the paper to Samuel Storey, sometime between 1885 and 1903, retaining only 1/4 stake in the business. The paper remained in the possession of the Storey family until 1998, when Richard Storey stepped down as chairman. The paper, which is today (2008) known as the Portsmouth News, is published by Johnston Press.
