Researcher in low temperature physics at Berlin University until 1930s. Being Jewish he left Berlin in the wake of the antisemitic Nazi regime in Germany. Invited to work at the Claredon Laboratory in Oxford, England by Lord Cherwell. Worked on the solidifying of helium & uranium enrichment fot the Manhattan Project
