Max Ferdinand Perutz 1914 - 2002
Max Perutz was an Austrian-born British molecular biologist and a pioneer in protein crystallography who won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1962 with John Kendrew for determining the structures of globular proteins, like haemoglobin. He was a central figure in molecular biology, founded the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) in Cambridge, and also conducted research on Huntington's disease.
