Nurse and wife of Dr Antoine Depage (surgeon to King Albert and head of the Belgian Red Cross. He founded the first Belgian medical school and appointed English nurse Edith Cavell as its director.) On the outbreak of war Marie went with him to Flanders to give medical aid to the troops. She then went to America to raise funds but died on her return to Europe aboard the Lusitania when it was torpedoed and sunk by a German U-boat.
