c. 1888 - commenced his chemical career at the works of his cousin, Mr. Edmund Joynson, the well-known paper maker, where he studied under Messrs. Cross and Bevan, and formed a lifelong friendship.

c. 1892 - became a partner in that firm; was associated with the various industrial developments of cellulose xanthate or viscose and in 1892 patented Viscose with Cross & Bevan;

later associated with Dr. Stevens, and with him practised as an analytical and consulting chemist. Specialist in the science of paper-making, and an authority on matters

connected with the chemistry of rubber
