1760 - Richard Salter, a sping maker, began making 'pocket steelyards' in Bilston, England;

by 1825 - Salter's nephew George had taken over the company, and became known as George Salter & Co later establishing a manufactory in West Bromwich, producing variety of scales including bathroom scales, irons, mincers, potato chippers, coin-operated machines and a typewriter.

1972 - company purchased by Staveley Industries Plc and split into separate subsidiaries, housewares, industrial etc;

late 1980s-early 1990s Staveley acquired more businesses world-wide and formed a new 'weighing group' including the Weigh-Tronix company of America;

1998 - management buy out, and became Weigh-Tronix Corporation, with Salter Housewares as part of that;

2002 - management team at Salter Housewares Ltd, bought the company out from the group;

2004 - sold to the US-based HoMedics company, leaders in 'personal wellness' products;

2006- Salter Housewares USA and Taylor Precision Products Inc (also owned by HoMedics) merged;
