1871 - made the Standard Clock at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich. 1876 - the Dent trademark, the triangle, was instituted in an attempt to combat inferior products. 1877 - built the New Standard Arctic Surveying Compass for the Dutch Polar Expedition. 1880 - Japanese Emperor Mejii grants company a Royal Warrant. 1897 - company incorporated and became E. Dent & Co. Ltd.
