1810 - William Simons started business at Greenock. 1811 - launched first ship, Janet Dunlop. 1812 - business moved from Scotland to Canada. 1814 - built the frigate Confiance for the British Government. 1818 - business returned to Greenock on the Clyde. 1826 - shipyard moved to Whiteinch, Glasgow. 1851 - built the William Connal, the first ship to use wire rigging. 1862 - delivered first Clyde steam hopper, beginning their specialisation in dredging plants. 1886 - founder William Simons retired from the business. 1895 - built TSS Salford, an enclosed hopper-type ship for waste dumping at sea. 1919 - built the Fingal. 1959 - merged with Lobnitz & Co Ltd becoming Simons-Lobnitz.
