1810 - Richard Hornsby began work with Richard Seaman, the village blacksmith of Barrowby, Lincolnshire; later the Seaman & Hornsby partnership was formed; 1828 - Seamanretired and the firm became Richard Hornsby & Sons making ploughs and seed drills; by 1840 - the company made steam engines, used for traction engines in the 1850s
