1861 - established by Andrew Stewart, tube maker.

1867 - James Stewart (brother) joined the firm and named Andrew and James Stewart

1882 - private company, iron and steel manufacturers and iron founders of Coatbridge and Glasgow, Messrs. Stewart Brothers

1890 - becomes public company and is renamed A. and J. Stewart and Clydesdale, as taken over by the Clydesdale Iron and Steel Co of Mossend, near Glasgow.

1898 - Messrs. James Menzies and Co of Glasgow, taken over and the name changed to A and J Stewart and Menzies.

1903 - Stewarts & Lloyds Ltd. created by amalgamating A. and J. Stewart and Menzies of Coatbridge and Lloyd and Lloyd of Birmingham at Coombs Wood, Halesowen.

1908-1924 - became colliery owners as acquired control of Robert Addie and Sons Collieries.

before 1914 - bought British Welding Co of Motherwell, manufacturers of hydraulic welded tubes and established a new works at Tollcross, Glasgow.

1914 - 41 Oswald Street, Glasgow and Nile Street, Birmingham also London, Liverpool, Manchester, Cardiff, Leeds

1932 - moved to Corby, Northamptonshire

1967 - became part of British Steel
