Founded in 1881 by James Kerr as James Kerr & Co., and became Kerr, Stuart & Co from 1883 when John Stuart was taken on as a partner. It started life in Glasgow but moved to the California Works in Stoke in 1892 to build their own locomotives.In 1930 the company was brought by the Hunslet Engine Co Ltd.
